Soap sacks should be made with cotton, cotton blend or bamboo yarn, because it is soft and easy to wash.

While there is no minimum, keep in mind that there is a definite need for toiletries among the underserved and giving in quantities of 10 or more is a good start.

There are many ways to get soap for the sacks.  Dollar as well as big box stores sell soap at a discounted price.  Boy/Girl Scouts, church/temple youth groups, Key Club high school chapters, Elks Lodges and stores/companies can  coordinate soap drives.

Soap should be donated in its original packaging and be full-size bars.

It is recommended but not required.  A template for tags can be found on the “Patterns/Resources” tab on this website.

S.A.C.K. is a movement, an idea… so there aren’t any official “chapters.” For those individuals wanting to organize a knitting/crocheting group and/or coordinate a soap drive, please feel free to do so. However, the goal of S.A.C.K. is not to manage, coordinate or sanction any of these efforts. The vision of S.A.C.K. is to inspire people to organize, knit/crochet soap sacks and donate within their own communities.

It is not necessary to wash the soap sacks.
